A rare and wonderful antique accessory, this large, flat, circular vessel was essential for keeping warm during the early days of motoring or carriage travel. Constructed from heavy-gauge copper, this foot warmer is a beautiful piece of early travel and domestic history.
Late Victorian to early 20th Century (c. 1900–1920), corresponding with the rise of the motor car and the need for portable heating. Designed to be filled with hot water and placed on the floor of a carriage, sledge, or early automobile to keep the occupants' feet warm during cold journeys, long before car heaters were standard. Constructed from solid, heavy-duty Copper with a secure brass stopper/filler cap.
Features a distinctive flat, disc or round "pancake" shape to fit comfortably under the feet or seat without rolling, maximizing the surface area for heat radiation.
The top features a prominent brass screw-on cap with a ring handle. The copper exterior has acquired a deep, rich Verdigris patina (dark, aged brown/bronze colour) consistent with genuine antique age and exposure, which is highly prized by collectors.
The body is solid and retains a handsome, historic patina. Remarkably good functional condition, appearing to hold water well (though modern use is at buyer's discretion). The patina is deep and rich. This item is perfect for collectors of motoring memorabilia, antique copperware, or those looking for a unique rustic/industrial accent piece for a fireplace, hearth, or library shelf.
