A superb pair of antique Japanese Cloisonné Enamel Vases, dating from the prestigious Meiji Period (1868–1912), the "Golden Age" of Japanese enamel work.
These beautiful vases feature an elegant, classic baluster form. The intricate yūsen shippō (wired cloisonné) is executed on a rich mirror-black ground, detailed with vibrant koi carp swimming amongst stylized aquatic foliage. The neck and foot are finished with contrasting decorative bands in turquoise and red.
The high quality of the wirework, the precise, colourful design, and the overall craftsmanship are hallmarks of Meiji-era production. A magnificent and rare pair of decorative arts.
9 inches high, 2.75 inches at base.
They are in good condition, one is has slight fading. Wear commensurate with age, please see photos for more detailed condition report.
