Antique / Vintage West African Bronze Pendant Plaque – Edo/Benin Style.
A detailed and evocative small bronze plaque featuring a stylized African face, cast in the tradition of the famed Benin Kingdom (Edo) bronzes of Nigeria.
The plaque is cast in high relief and features traditional details, including a distinctive headdress and prominent, wide-set eyes. Given its small size and traditional style, this piece is likely a Ceremonial Pendant Mask or miniature plaque, historically worn on the belt or hip as part of ceremonial court regalia to signify rank or ancestral connection.
The piece has developed a beautiful, deep, aged dark bronze patina over its surface, indicative of its age. It was typically cast using the cire perdue (lost-wax) technique.
