A striking and captivating small bronze plaque cast in high relief, representing a highly stylized interpretation of Benin/Edo court art (Nigeria).
This piece is distinct, featuring an elongated, narrow face, a prominent straight nose, and intensely stylized features, including thick, textured eyebrows. The head is covered by a tall, distinctive, patterned headdress.
Similar to other ceremonial bronzes from the region, this plaque was created using the cire perdue (lost-wax) technique. Given its small size and loop at the top, it likely functioned as a ceremonial Pendant Mask or regalia worn on the hip or belt to denote rank.
Height: 6.25 inches.
Condition is good, one small hole right hand top of head, please see photos for more description.
