Exceptional Antique Sterling Silver and Glass 'Glug Glug' Decanter.

A magnificent and genuine Victorian-era 'Glug Glug' Decanter (also known as a 'Kluk Kluk'). This elegant piece features a beautifully shaped, hand-blown glass body and is crowned with a highly sought-after, fully hallmarked sterling silver collar and original stopper. The decanter's unique form, with its four pinched internal flutes, gives it the characteristic "glugging" sound when pouring, which not only aerates the spirit but is a charming acoustic feature prized by collectors.

This is an expertly crafted antique with clear and desirable hallmarks, dating it precisely to the end of the Victorian period:

  • Maker: James Deakin & Sons (JD over WD), specifically John and William Deakin. The Deakin firm was a highly respected manufacturer of silver and electroplate in Sheffield.

  • Assay Office: Sheffield

  • Metal Quality: Sterling Silver (.925)

  • Date: 1898 (marked by the corresponding date letter)

  • Style: Late Victorian

  • Glass Body: Features the classic pinched and fluted waist, creating the four internal tubes that give the decanter its famous sound and distinctive silhouette.

  • Silver Collar: The sterling silver mount is fully hallmarked and seamlessly fitted to the neck.

  • Stopper: Topped with a substantial, classic hollow glass ball stopper, completing the elegant profile.

The decanter is in very good antique condition commensurate with age. The glass is clear with no chips or cracks.
