A striking vintage bronze sculpture depicting a figure standing and balancing a large, stylized vessel or load on their head, with one arm raised to support the weight.
The figure is captured in mid-stride, wearing simple attire, and carrying a small bag or pouch slung over the shoulder. The piece is cast in bronze using the ancient lost-wax method (cire perdue). This sculpture is a compelling example of West African figurative art, representing themes of trade, travel, or daily work.
Described as either peasant or beggar, but here I have described as a man carrying basket.
The figure stands on a sturdy, integrated base and has developed a deep, aged dark patina.
Likely Cameroonian or possibly Nigerian.
